THE SOUTHERN GATE
The southern gate opens on the fortified terrace. Before accessing this gate, one had to go first through a fortified gate by the base of the terrace wall. One can still see a pier with a part of an ribbed vault of this gate which still existed until 1963. Then one had to climb the narrow stone stair case between two walls making an ideal trap to allow the defence to drop all sorts of projectiles on the assaulters. Finally assaulters had to get a foothold on the fortified terrace and face the defence of the castle walls.
